Finnish Education system in short
The
Finnish education system consists of comprehensive school,
post-comprehensive general and vocational education, higher education and
adult education.
Higher education system consists of universities
and universities of applied sciences (polytechnics). The universities of
applied sciences (polytechnics) are usually regional higher education
institutions which provide education in subjects from several sectors, and
which emphasize a connection with working life. The degrees they provide
are higher education (BA) degrees with a professional emphasis and they
take between 3.5 and 4 years to complete.
|
There are altogether 31 universities of applied sciences in Finland. Most
of these institutions are multidisciplinary and provide education in the
following sectors: health and social services, culture, the humanities and
education, technology and transport, business and administration, tourism,
catering and institutional management, and natural resources.
In
addition to theoretical studies, university of applied sciences degrees
also require practical training in the workplace and a diploma project.
