ja erikoisalojen sanakirjoja ja sanastoja, linkkejä ja informaatiota
Monia
sanoja tai termejä ei voi kääntää suoraan kielestä toiseen. Sellaisetkin
sanat kuten kirkko, kaste, sosiaalityö, diakoni, seurakunta ja
ammattikorkeakoulu voivat merkitä erilaisia asioita eri ihmisille eri
maissa, yhteiskunnissa ja kirkoissa. Tämän vuoksi englanniksi ei ole
useinkaan olemassa tiettyä virallista termiä kuten suomeksi. Harvoin
voidaan kysyä: Mikä on tämä termi englanniksi? Mieluummin pitäisi kysyä:
Mitkä ovat mahdolliset termit englanniksi? Mitä englanninkielistä termiä
tietyssä organisaatiossa käytetään? Mitä termiä pitäisi käyttää tässä
yhteydessä?
Yksi tämän kokoelman tavoite on luoda
terminologista yhdenmukaisuutta Diakin henkilökunnan ja opiskelijoiden
käyttöön.
Sen jälkeen kun olet valinnut haluamasi alueen
pudotusvalikosta sivun vasemmasta reunasta, klikkaa tummennettuja
(merkittyjä) sanoja tai sanontoja. Tällöin saat mahdollisia käännöksiä,
lisäselvityksiä tai erityistermejä tai pääset Internet-sivuille, joilla
näitä aihepiirejä käsitellään.

Mitään sanakirjoja tai tekstejä ei tule pitää lopullisena auktoriteettina,
ei myöskään tätä kokoelmaa. Tarkoituksena on opastaa monimutkaisissa ja
ongelmallisissa erityistermeissä. Kuten alussa mainittiin, lukemattomat
sanat voivat merkitä erilaisia asioita eri ihmisille. Termit voivat saada
myös uusia merkityksiä sen mukaan, mistä erityisalueesta on kysymys.

and Specialised Glossaries, Dictionaries, Links and Information
Many
words or terms cannot easily be translated directly from one language to
another. Words like church, baptism, social work, deacon, parish and
polytechnic can mean different things to many people and to the people of
different countries, communities or churches. Because of this, there is
often no official term in English as there is in Finnish, therefore, one
can seldom ask “what is this term in English?”. Better questions might be:
What are the possible terms in English? What English term does your
organisation use? What term should I use in this context?
One
goal of this collection is to create terminological consistency amongst
Diak staff, facility and students.
