Incoming Exchange Students


How to Apply


If you wish to study as an exchange student at the Diaconia University of Applied Sciences, you should make sure that you will be nominated by your home institution. Therefore, as the first step, please contact the international office at your own educational institution.

After getting permission from your home institution please submit your application annexed with one passport photo, transcript of records (in English), Learning Agreement and with a one page description of yourself, your background (studies, hobbies, what kind of work would you like to do in the future) and your motivation to study in Diak.

Please note that our chief means of communication is by e-mail using the e-mail address provided in your application.

Diak will only process your application if we have received confirmation from your home university that you have been selected to come to Diak.

- Study year begins 6 August 2012 and ends 31 May 2013
- There are two semesters (there is no summer semester)
- Autumn semester: 6 August - 21 December 2012 (courses begin 13 August 2012)
- Spring semester: 7 January - 31 May 2013 (courses begin 14 January 2013)

Note: Teaching language in Diak is Finnish. If the language of instruction is different from Finnish, it is indicated in the course description.

Also please note that if you wish to carry out your practise in Finnish hospital or other institute, you should find out what health and vaccination certificates your practise place in Finland requires from you.

Housing

Please note that all students are expected to cover the rental cost by themselves.

Helsinki
Housing for exchange students in Helsinki can be arranged for example through HOAS. Instructions for applying can be found here. Please note that Diak can not guarantee any accommodation for late applicants, and that in general, finding suitable accommodation in the capital region can be challenging.

Järvenpää
Housing for exchange students can be arranged through HOAS in Helsinki (see above). With a commune train it takes less than 30 minutes from Helsinki to Järvenpää.

Pieksämäki
If you will study at Diak Pieksämäki Unit, this Unit will assist you in finding housing. However, exchange students are expected to cover the rental costs by themselves.

Turku
Accommodation can be electronically booked on the website of The Student Village Foundation of Turku www.tys.fi (Turun Ylioppilaskyläsäätiö, TYS). You can't apply for accommodation before your application has been accepted by Diak Turku Unit. The application can be made as early as three months prior to your arrival, but please notice that it must be done at least 6 weeks before your arrival to Turku.

Oulu
Accommodation can be electronically booked on the website of PSOAS http://www.psoas.fi/en/
